There's something undeniably special about a station stay in Outback Queensland where wide-open spaces, warm hospitality and soul-stirring landscapes await.

Here, visitors can immerse themselves into the beauty of the bush, soak in artesian baths, share a campfire under starlit skies, find a connection to the land and savour a slower way of life.

From historic sheep stations to wildlife rich wetlands and soaring red sandhills, these Outback Queensland station stays are truly something else...

Toogunna Plains

Tucked between the towns of Quilpie and Eromanga, Toogunna Plains is a fifth-generation cattle and sheep station offering 18 stylish ensuited cabins with warm showers and a cosy bed - a welcome opportunity to break up your long-haul trip.

This fifth-generation cattle and sheep property allows guests to see the day-to-day workings of life on the land, with fresh baked smoko along the way.

A highlight of a stay at Toogunna is their sunset sandhills tour.  Enjoy bubbles and a cheese platter as you take in the magic of an Outback sunset over the Channel Country.

Charlotte Plains

Located just a short drive from Cunnamulla, Charlotte Plains sheep station has become a cult favourite with travellers due its steaming artesian waters and outdoor bathing experiences.

Guests can take a station tour, enjoy a spot of birdwatching or explore the kilometres of walking trails that cross the property before slipping into an outdoor bath at sunset.  Enjoy a toasty end to your day around a glowing campfire, swapping stories under stunning starlit skies.

The Lake Quilpie

Just 4km from the charming town of Quilpie, The Lake is a stunning location nestled around Lake Houdraman.

Swim, fish or ride around the lake, enjoy a spot of yabbying or birdwatching, take a private station tour, pick mulberries or chat with other guests at the onsite bar that opens after 5pm.

The property offers a variety of accommodation styles from campsites to one- and two-bedroom cottages.

A highlight of a trip to The Lake is their onsite artesian bathhouse (additional charges apply).

Dunblane

Experience life on a working sheep farm at Dunblane, a 40,000-acre property located near Barcaldine.

This station stay is as authentic as they come.  Visitors can camp along the riverbank, spot wildlife at dusk, cook around a campfire or soak in the Outback atmosphere quite literally in an open-air artesian tub.

At various times of the year, visitors can see sheep shearing in action or can take a self-drive tour around the property to see points of interest like water points, historical structures, and of course – sheep!

Lara Wetlands

Just 28 kilometres south of Barcaldine. This 15,000-acre property is home to wildlife rich wetlands and offers pure serenity.

Set up along the water's edge amongst paperbarks and take in a stunning sunset framed by your unspoiled natural surrounds.

Lara Wetlands offers 16 acres of unpowered campsites, suitable for vans, motorhomes and tents.  Amenities include flush toilets, showers, a shared camp kitchen and a thermal artesian pool.

Families travelling with kids will love the 7-hole mini golf course, kayaks, bicycles and cubby house available.

Rangelands Outback Camp

Located on a jump-up (or mesa), Rangelands Station is a working cattle property that delivers ultra-luxe glamping at its best. Six supersize tents come complete with king-sized beds, air conditioning, designer decor and a shower with a view. Only 12 supremely pampered guests are accommodated at a time.  Here, generously sized luxury tents sit atop ancient mesas. Guests are offered panoramic vistas as they enjoy fine wines and a chef prepared menu influenced by Outback culture and flavours.

By day, Rangelands guests can enjoy group tours or scenic helicopter flights to explore ancient landscapes, dinosaur attractions, Outback stations and opal mines.

Francvillers Station

For those who are self-sufficient and happy to venture off grid, Francvillers Station is a hidden gem near Quilpie that offers absolute privacy.

Here, caravanners set up on secluded campsites along peaceful waterholes. If you're lucky enough to secure the Lake Paddock Campsite, you'll also enjoy your very own artesian bath.

Spend your days bushwalking, fishing and yabbying, tell yarns around the campfire and take in some of Queensland's darkest night skies for an unforgettable Outback experience.

Gilberton Retreat
